Why ÉCLAT? And why you should be cautious when buying perfume dupes
In the world of perfume dupes, not everything is as glamorous as it seems. While many sellers advertise low prices and luxury-inspired fragrances, the reality behind the scenes often looks quite different. As one of the most established names in the market, we at ÉCLAT have conducted extensive test purchases from other dupe sellers in recent months – with shocking results. The majority of the tested vendors required us to take legal action due to severe violations of current regulations.
1. Legal violations & lack of product safety among competitors
Our investigation revealed that many sellers violate key regulations such as the EU Cosmetics Regulation, product safety laws (GPSR), and mandatory labeling requirements. One vendor even had the banned ingredient Lyral in the product itself – a fragrance compound prohibited in the EU since 2021 due to its strong allergenic potential.
In the majority of cases, the products were not even registered in the CPNP (Cosmetic Products Notification Portal), which is a legal requirement for cosmetics within the EU.
Essential safety information was missing – information that protects you as a consumer. Even worse: the manufacturer listed on the packaging often differed from the one on the website, or no manufacturer was listed at all. Many vendors deliberately host their imprint abroad, making them nearly unreachable in case of legal issues or customer concerns. Transparency? Almost none.
2. No quality control in manufacturing
Most vendors simply resell imported goods from unknown sources abroad – with little to no knowledge about the actual ingredients. Where the perfume oils come from or how safe they are? They don’t know.
At ÉCLAT, things are different: Our perfumes are created, filled, and packed in Fernwald, Germany. We know exactly what goes into every bottle – from the flacon and cap to the label and box.
Every single ingredient is documented and fully compliant with the EU Cosmetics Regulation. We even go further: our products meet the strict standards of IFRA.
3. IFRA-compliant & responsibly formulated
What is IFRA? The International Fragrance Association (based in Geneva) sets strict global safety standards for fragrance ingredients. These guidelines are often stricter than EU law and regulate what concentrations are safe to use in cosmetics – with consumer safety as the top priority.
IFRA compliance is not mandatory – but for us, it's non-negotiable. Because we take responsibility for what goes on your skin. Profit is not our highest value – your safety is. We only create products we would confidently recommend to our loved ones.
4. Beware of trademark violations
Another common issue: illegal comparative advertising. Many dupe sellers showcase the flacon of a major brand next to their own or even name the original fragrance in the product title. This is illegal in Germany and considered misleading.
At ÉCLAT, we strictly follow trademark law. Our perfume dupes are inspired by familiar fragrance families – but we never imitate, name, or exploit third-party trademarks. We operate with transparency and full legal compliance.
5. Vegan, phthalate-free & free from unnecessary additives – with proof
We're raising the bar: Our entire range is gradually becoming vegan, phthalate-free, UV filter-free, and free from artificial dyes. Other vendors may label their products “vegan” without fully understanding the definition or checking the ingredients.
Did you know some ingredients like civet – a musky substance traditionally extracted from wild cats – may be animal-derived, even when used in trace amounts in perfumes? And some synthetics are processed using egg whites. You won't see that on the label – but we investigate, and we inform.
6. More perfume oil = better? Not always
Some sellers advertise 30%, 40%, or even 50% perfume oil content. While it sounds impressive, it’s often misleading.
Why? Because the higher the oil concentration, the stricter the safety regulations. And many of these products don't meet them.
To bypass legal limits, oils are often diluted with cheap carriers like Dipropylene Glycol, Isopropyl Myristate, or excess ethanol. Worse: some sellers use concentrations that are not even permitted in the EU.
The customer sees high percentages – but might unknowingly be exposed to unregulated, potentially harmful substances. This could lead to allergic reactions or skin irritation.
Our perfumes are perfectly balanced at 18–20% oil concentration, delivering a rich and long-lasting scent – without compromising your well-being. Quality over quantity.
7. Made in Germany & truly approachable
With a German-based company, real customer service, and full transparency, we’re here for you. We know our suppliers, our formulations, and our responsibilities.
We maintain long-term partnerships with experienced perfumers and fragrance labs. Every step of the production process is local, traceable, and honest – so you always know what you're getting.
Conclusion: ÉCLAT stands for safety, trust & transparency
In a world full of questionable imports and unclear origins, ÉCLAT offers an alternative you can trust. Our perfume dupes are legally safe, ethically sound, and beautifully crafted.
If you want to enjoy a high-quality, responsible perfume – one you can feel good about wearing or gifting – ÉCLAT is the right choice for you.
